Morning Sickness: Tips And Ways For Getting Through It!•
Posted on June 03 2019
Pregnancy is the most beautiful experience a woman ever has. The feeling of a new life that is growing in you is said to be a very spiritual experience. It is one of the most important decisions a couple takes when they decide to bring a human in this world and take responsibility for it. However, this experience tends to get a bit challenging during the first trimester of the pregnancy. And this is due to morning sickness.
What is morning sickness, its symptoms, and reasons?
Morning sickness is experienced by a pregnant woman in the first trimester and continues up to 16-20 weeks of the pregnancy. It includes constant nausea and vomiting at any time of the day. Morning sickness doesn’t always occur in the morning. It can happen at any time of the day during the first trimester.
Experts believe that morning sickness is caused due to change of estrogen level in the body due to pregnancy, some believe that it is an evolutionary process for the mother and child, some believe that it is caused because the baby is reacting to poisonous/stale food. One of the causes could be that you are expecting more than one baby. However, these are all assumptions. The real cause for morning sickness is still not known.
Morning sickness can be super annoying and irritating. But it is not necessary to suffer due to it when you can at least manage to lower its frequency!
Here are some tips to get through morning sickness:
- Dry biscuit:
Try to eat a dry biscuit after you wake up. This will stop any acid-reflux and curb any vomiting sensation. Many women have noticed a relief in morning sickness after eating a dry biscuit within 30 minutes of waking up.
- Water consumption and flavored ice-cubes:
Do not drink water in huge quantities. This will increase your nausea and make you want to throw up. If you can, freeze fresh fruit juices, water squashes, etc. into ice cubes. Suck on these ice cubes when you feel nauseous. This will help you relieve the symptoms.
- Avoid staying empty stomach:
Staying empty stomach during pregnancy is an absolute no. This could harm you and your baby. Especially after throwing-up, you should be more alert and careful about your hydration levels.
- Avoid your triggers:
Every woman has her own triggers during pregnancy. For some women, morning sickness gets triggered because of strong smells.
- Ginger, lemon, and other natural ingredients:
Consumption of ginger, lemon, or oranges is very popular in relieving women of nausea in the first trimester. You could also have a look at herbal teas with these ingredients that are specially curated for to-be-mommies.
Take small meals spread throughout the day in a gap of two to three hours. This reduces the acid-reflux of the stomach. Besides that, a small meal also ensures that you are energized and your digestive system is not tensed all the time.
Some antihistamines also help during pregnancy. Antihistamines are medications which help suppress the feeling of vomiting. For this, you should consult your gynecologist.
You could also experiment with some acupressure. Acupressure by the right professional could lower the frequency of morning sickness.
